3 Tips To Help You Secure A Lower Car Insurance Quote

Posted on

Have you been shopping around for car insurance quotes and found yourself in shock at the prices you are being quoted? If so, you should know that you do not need to simply accept these high premiums. It is often possible to obtain a significantly lower car insurance quote by using just the three tips below.

Tip #1: Set Your Deductible As High As Possible

Most people automatically set their deductible as low as possible to try and save money in the future if they should ever need to file a claim. What many people do not realize is that the lower their deductible is set, the more they will pay for their coverage. Since most people do not file a car insurance claim regularly, choosing a lower deductible is not an effective way of saving money in the long term. If you want to save money on your car insurance, set your deductible as high as you can without risking the inability to cover this deductible in the event of an accident. Changing the amount of your deductible will allow you to see an immediate decrease in your insurance costs each month.

Tip #2: Make Sure Your Quote Only Includes The Coverage You Need

Some insurance companies will include a wide range of coverage in all of their policies unless the customer expressly chooses to remove or deny this coverage. For example, it is quite common for insurance companies to include roadside assistance or rental car coverage as part of a standard car insurance quote. If you do not require this type of coverage, be sure that you are customizing your quote to include only the coverage that you need. You may be surprised to see how much your quote drops once you get rid of any unnecessary coverage.

Tip #3: Make Sure That You Have Signed Up For A Safe Driver Discount Program

Most major insurance carriers offer customers the ability to sign up for a safe driver discount program. These programs usually require you to download an app to your phone and allow the app to record data about your driving habits for a few months. While you will not receive your final discount until after you have completed the entire program, you will receive the minimum discount right away just for agreeing to participate in the program. Be sure that all eligible drivers on your policy download the required app to their smartphone to really maximize this savings opportunity.
